Why won't my dishwasher drain?
Dirty water sitting in the bottom after the cycle means it isn't leaving the tub. The cause is usually a blockage, not a broken machine.

Clogged Filter Assembly
Most newer dishwashers have a filter under the bottom spray arm that needs regular cleaning. When food builds up, water can't reach the pump. We clean the filter and sump and show you how to keep it clear.

Failed Drain Pump
If you hear a hum at drain time but the water stays, or you hear nothing at all, the pump motor may have failed or something hard, like a piece of glass, may be jammed in it. We clear the pump or replace it.

Blocked Drain Hose or Disposal Connection
The drain hose runs under the sink to the drain or the garbage disposal. A kink, a clog or the knockout plug left inside a newly installed disposal will stop drainage. We clear the hose and check the connection.
Quick check: run the garbage disposal for a few seconds and run hot water in the sink before starting the dishwasher. A clogged disposal or sink drain is a common cause.
